SELF-EFFICACY v edukačných súvislostiach

Abstract

Pedagogika a psychológia sú dve vedné disciplíny, ktorých vzájomné prienikové možnosti sú zrejmé aj v prostredí školy. Teoretické tézy a ich odborné vysletľovanie ich už dávno spájajú. Problematika self efficacy je jednou z tých tém, kde vzájomná spolupráca pedagógov a psychológov prináša nové zistenia, nové závery, nové úvahy, ale i nové výzvy na známe i menej známe paradigmy.

Osobne vnímaná profesijná zdatnosť – self-efficacy hrá hlavnú úlohu v celom spektre determinánt podmieňujúcich správanie človeka. Jej hodnota má priamu väzbu na dosiahnutie konkrétneho výsledku. Vzťahuje sa k vlastnému presvedčeniu človeka o jeho schopnosti niečo dosiahnuť, bez ohľadu na jeho skutočné kompetencie.

V kontexte problematiky hľadania a analyzovania vplyvov na vzťahy a výsledky v škole je dobré reflektovať self efficacy učiteľov. Tí majú byť významným článkom reťazca spájajúceho proces adaptácie a vzdelávania žiaka v prostredí školy. Rovnako sa práve od učiteľov očakáva, že budú iniciátormi a nositeľmi rozvoja myslenia detí.

Na jednej strane stojí učiteľ a jeho self efficacy, na druhej strane je však žiak a jeho osobne vnímaná zdatnosť. Žiak je dôležitou súčasťou školy, pre neho celé snaženie učiteľa vzniká, na neho je zamerané. Učiteľ a žiak, to sú dva významné rámce, ktorých súlad môže umocniť kvalitu školy. Koncepčný rámec self efficacy má preto v školskom prostredí svoje opodstatnenie. Navyše, ak práve pre jeho osobitnú vnútornú silu môže odhaliť aj iné závislosti. Predkladaná monografia má ambíciu poukázať čitateľom široké výskumné i teoretické možnosti uplatnenia self efficacy v školskom prostredí. Pri jej tvorbe sa stretla skupina odborníkov z Českej a Slovenskej republiky a tak má predkladané dielo i nádych česko-slovenskej vzájomnosti, ktorá v podmienkach vedy a výskumu nikdy nestratila na svojej sile a významnosti. Okrem česko-slovenského súznenia sa podarilo vytvoriť prienik pedagogicko-psychologických úvah, čo v prácach podobného typu nebýva bežné. Veríme, že čitateľov poteší skutočnosť, že monografia ponúka závery a analýzy pôvodných výskumov, ktoré boli riešené na území Českej a Slovenskej republiky za posledné dva roky. Snahou autorov je otvoriť tak vedecký diskurz na problematiku self efficacy predovšetkým v školskom prostredí.

Self-efficacy is a concept that has importance in many spheres of life. It is defined as confidence of a person in his/her capabilities to perform actions that result in expected outcomes. Self-efficacy is a very useful concept in the educational sphere because it has the potential to explain why some pupils are successful in learning (and others are not) and why some teachers are efficient in reaching the educational objectives (and others are not). The book’s focus was both on self-efficacy of pupils as well as of teachers. After describing the theoretical underpinnings of this concept, as elaborated by Albert Bandura (chapter 1.1), an attempt was made to find a linguistically appropriate Czech/Slovak translation of the English term “self-efficacy” and to delineate its relations to cognate notions such as self-concept, self-esteem, and locus of control (chapter 1.2). Next chapter brought a thorough literature review on pupils´ self-efficacy for learning, including the part dealing with hints of how the teacher can systematically increase its level in pupils (chapter 2). In the next three chapters the focus is shifted from pupil’s to teacher’s self-efficacy. In chapter 3 an account is presented on the importance of self-efficacy in teacher actions, followed by findings of research of Slovak pre-service and in-service teachers using Teacher Efficacy Scale (Gibson, Dembo, 1984). The next chapter is a research study comparing self-efficacy of three categories of teachers, i.e., novice teachers, experienced teachers and mentors. Contrasting novice teachers with the their more experienced colleagues brought important findings. As expected, in the Teacher Efficacy Scale novice teachers had the lowest score, mentors had the highest score. But, surprisingly, experienced teachers had the lowest score in GTE dimension of the three subsamples of respondents. Chapter 5 concerns the concept that is related to self-efficacy – the subjective theories of the teacher. It demonstrates how these theories affect the actions of the teacher ranging from lesson planning to lesson teaching and lesson evaluation. The nucleus of the chapter is the presentation of tools that serve to diagnose teacher’s estimate of pupil’s attitude to school subjects, pupil’s learning abilities, and pupil’s learning motivation. These estimates are then compared with attitudes, abilities and motivation as assessed by the pupil. The comparison between teacher’s and pupil’s data in these diagnostic tools serve the teacher as an important source of evidence how teacher’s subjective theories are accurate. The final chapter is cantered on the student teacher. It presents professional motivation of the students, their identification with the profession, expectation about the teacher training and the evaluation of the Czech school environment. The chapters were written by experienced academics and scholars from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The data and the findings which were presented in the chapters make it possible some between-countries comparisons.
